May 11: Picacho Peak State Park, AZ > San Diego, CA

I didn't sleep all that well on this night, and awoke at 5:30 AM to use the bathroom, just in time to see the sunrise. 5:30 AM is, of course, 8:30 AM EST, so that makes a lot of sense. I tried to go back to sleep to no avail, so I just got up and started my day. This day would be the last day of heading westward.

May 10: Las Cruces, NM > Picacho Peak State Park, AZ

I awoke fairly early this morning, courtesy of some sort of aviary alarm clock and my biological clock still being on East Coast time. No matter, it would give me a head start on the day.

May 9: Dallas, TX > Las Cruces, NM

Texas is big. Anyone that has driven across the state knows this, but as this was my first time driving the long way (East to West) it really is huge. I've driven across the panhandle of Texas twenty years before and remember that it was a long way, this was even more so.

Before I set out to conquer the western half of Texas, though, I wanted to visit Dealey Plaza, home to the infamous Kennedy Assassination in 1963.

I was only about 12 blocks from the plaza, so after packing my car I hiked westward.

May 8: Memphis TN > Dallas, TX

After a great nights sleep, and a crummy "continental breakfast" (seriously, I've been to The Continent, and this is NOT what they have for breakfast anywhere in Europe...) I headed into Memphis proper to have a look-see.

I always love wandering around southern towns and cities on Sunday, because most people are in church the landscape is devoid of people, and traffic. Memphis was no different.

I had never been to Memphis before, so it was a treat.

May 7: Chicago, IL > Memphis, TN

One of the reasons I dislike the Spring season is the unpredictability of the weather. This morning was a prime example. It was 81 the previous night, so why would I think I would need anything warm on the following day?

May 6: Horseheads, NY > Chicago, IL

After a sporadic night's sleep, I had a good Dad-prepared breakfast and a good Mom-prepared fussing over while I packed the car.

May 5: Providence, RI > Horseheads, New York

This trip has been simmering for awhile now, and I finally decided to take the plunge and just do it! Where am I going? Everyone keeps asking me, and other than wanting to see the Pacific and Monument Valley, the rest is up in the air. So join me as I take off on another exciting adventure.
